The JAMS Incident Management app for Android turns your phone into a pager. Alerts arrive as notifications that ring through Do Not Disturb, so a 3 a.m. page reaches you even when your phone is silenced for the night. Browser push notifications can't do that on any phone, which is why the app exists.
iPhone: an iOS version is coming. Until then, iPhone users can get alerts by push notification from the browser, SMS, voice call or WhatsApp.
Install and sign in
- Install JAMS Incident Management from Google Play. The link is also on your Settings page.
- Sign in with your usual JAMS Incident Management email and password. If you've turned on two-factor authentication, you'll also enter a code from your authenticator app. If your company signs in with single sign-on, tap Continue with SSO.
- Allow notifications when Android asks.
- When the app shows Allow alerts during Do Not Disturb, tap Grant access and switch it on for JAMS Incident Management.
Step 4 is the one that matters most. Without it, alerts still arrive, but a phone on Do Not Disturb stays quiet. Android doesn't let the app check whether you've granted it, so if you aren't sure, open Settings in the app and tap Do Not Disturb access again. If it's already on, nothing changes.
Make sure alerts are sent to the app
The app receives alerts sent on the push channel. Ask your admin to include push in your notification channels, or in the channels of the flows that should reach you. See Using push as a flow channel.
Push is unlimited on every plan and never uses up your SMS or call allowance.
What you can do in the app
Respond to an alert. Tap a notification, or open the Alerts tab:
- Acknowledge to take ownership and stop the escalation.
- Run the alert's actions, such as Restart a failed JAMS Scheduler or Skybot job or Run again a failed GoAnywhere project, when the alert offers them.
- Escalate to hand the alert to the next person, when there's someone to escalate to.
- View log to read a failed job's log, when one is available.
- Acknowledge all at the top of the Alerts tab acknowledges every alert that's still paging (New or Escalated) in one go. Approval requests aren't included; approve or deny those one by one.
See what's going on. The Dashboard tab shows whether you're on call, who's on call for each schedule, and counts of new, acknowledged and escalated alerts from the last 7 days.
Sign out from the Settings tab. Signing out stops alerts going to that phone.
See the on-call schedule
Open the Schedule tab, or tap View schedule on the Dashboard. If your workspace has more than one schedule, pick one at the top.
- Timeline lists the coming days, shift by shift. Your own shifts are highlighted, and Only my shifts hides everyone else's. Show 2 more weeks looks further ahead.
- Calendar shows a month at a time. Days you're on call are tinted, and an amber dot marks a gap where no one is on call. Tap a day to see its shifts.
Times are shown in your phone's time zone.
Cover a shift (overrides)
Tap any shift in the Timeline or Calendar and choose Cover this shift, then tap Override to put yourself (or, for admins, someone else) on call for it instead. The times are filled in for you; adjust them if you only need part of it. You can also tap Add override to choose any times. Alerts for that schedule go to you for that stretch.
- Anyone can put themselves on call. Admins can put anyone on call.
- To undo one, tap it and choose Remove this override. You can remove overrides you created; admins can remove any.
- Overrides can be up to 31 days. Longer changes are made to the rotation itself, by an admin on the web.
Pause all alerting (admins)
On the Dashboard, admins see Alerting is on with a Pause all alerting button, the same pause as on the web. Choose how long, from 30 minutes to 7 days, and add a note if you like. While paused, the card shows when it ends and how many alerts were suppressed, with Resume now and Extend.
Alerts that arrive during a pause are dropped, not sent later, and a pause always ends on its own. Scheduled and repeating pauses, and pausing only some flows, are set up on the web.
Flows, rotations and settings are managed on the web.
Troubleshooting
"Notifications are turned off". Notifications for the app are blocked in Android. Tap Open settings and allow them.
Alerts arrive, but not when the phone is on Do Not Disturb. Do Not Disturb access hasn't been granted. Open the app's Settings tab and tap Do Not Disturb access.
No alerts at all. Check that push is one of your channels (see above), and that you're signed in on this phone. Your other channels, such as SMS or a call, still arrive either way.
